About: Created at the height of America's fascination with organized crime, Andy Warhol's John Gotti transforms the infamous Gambino boss into a Pop Art icon. Originally commissioned for Time magazine's 1986 "Mafia on Trial" cover story, Warhol's portraits blur the line between celebrity and notoriety, exploring how mass media elevates public figures regardless of their fame or infamy. Executed with Warhol's signature combination of silkscreen, hand-applied color, and collage, this unique work stands as both a striking portrait and a powerful commentary on media, power, and the culture of celebrity that defined the late twentieth century. Approximately 10 works were created for Time magazine to select for the 1986 article.
