Alex Katz used traditional architectural blueprint methods to render the face of Kate Valk in this cyanotype. The portrait’s deep blues bleed through, accentuating the exaggerated features of the actress, who starred in Eugene O’Neill’s The Emperor Jones. Katz designed the show’s poster featuring her image; he then took it inspiration when creating this print.
